Special Projects

Christmas markets in collaboration con INGARDA, UFFICIO EVENTI,    work experience and special initiatives (eg the FAI marathon)
Aim: A series of educational experiences in the workplace will put into practice the theories and concepts discussed and studied in class.  A varied and wide range of opportunities to encourage growth and maturity involving students of the third, fourth and fifth years.
In November and December it will be the turn of the famous picturesque Arco Christmas Market in collaboration with  Apt Ingarda Trentino and  l'Ufficio Eventi.  Third year students will be asked to give information about the area and details about the programme of events taking place from their own special wooden chalet in the market.

Towards the end of the fourth year the students will decide what type of work experience to do (hotel, travel agency, Tourist Information Office, events organization) during the summer holidays.  All school disciplines are involved in the preparation during the year culminating in an intensive week dedicated to “Front Office” in each of the foreign languages.  The so- called “stage” is a serious professional committment with 130 hours of total immersion in the challenging and rewarding world of tourism.
Practical technical workshop
The tourism and business technical workshop offers, for first and second year students, modules of 20 hours over two terms. Its aim is to provide a base of technical knowledge of the tourist industry from the start without waiting for the final three years of professional schooling. This initiative allows Gardascuola to offer the students an opportunity to immediately get their teeth into a dimension which offers experience, motivation and satisfaction.
Creating and completing project work allows us to put into practice the theories acquired in class in a productive and enjoyable way.

Timetable

Gardascuola Technical Tourism Institute is organized over 5 weekdays from Monday to Friday with following timetable:

F.A.Q.

Is Gardascuola a private school?
Gardascuola is an “equal” school that is “not run by public means but by private “and is fully part of the provincial educational system. In our case it is a question of a cooperative with full legal status to supply qualifications.

Who belongs to this cooperative?
Among the associates of Gardascuola are The Commerce and Tourism Board, The Cassa Rurale Bank, Arco and Riva local authorities, Promcoop, The Padre Monti Institute and the parents of all the pupils attending the school.  Notably it is the parents themselves who actively participate in the running of the school through the Board of Governors.

Is there a flexible timetable?
The Institute allows all pupils to remain within the school grounds outside school hours from 7.30 am until 8.30am and from 4.15pm until 6.30pm.

Is Religion compulsory in this school?
No, it is optional like any other school.

What are the characteristics of the course?
The school began with the aim to educate individuals to become tourist operators so importance is given to the study of foreign languages (German, English and French) and to business studies for the tourist sector. Humanistic subjects are also given ample scope.

What is the timetable like?
There are 35 hours of lessons per week from Monday to Friday from 7.55am to 1.05pm. There are lessons and special projects timetabled in the afternoons, depending on each class.

What does Gardscuola's diploma qualify me for?

Of course the qualified tourist operator who wishes to continue with his/her studies will be able to access any university degree course  (the most popular  being cultural heritage, modern languages and literature, Economics and Law).
Several students decide to enrich their experiences both personal and professional by going abroad.

How are students monitored?
Students' presence at lessons is constantly monitored and communicated in case of repetitive absence or unusual episodes. Should a student find difficulty in a subject, there are consultation times in the afternoon in which the teacher of that subject will be available to explain any doubts.  Remedial courses are arranged when needed and it is always possible to consult individual teachers if necessary.
How can students who live far away organize themselves?
For those students who should need to stay, boarding facilities and study assistance are available in the Padre Monti Institute, run by a cooperative. (for information and cost contact the cooperative)

Is there a canteen?
Our school has its own kitchens and canteen in the grounds which prepares and distributes a full lunch.  Particular attention is paid to the nutrition needs of growing children in consultation with an external dietician.  There is a parent-teacher-canteen committee which welcomes and discusses any proposals to maintain standards.

Is it possible to do external qualifications?
Yes, university recognised ECDL (computer) courses are held and examined at Gardascuola which is an accredite test centre.  For those who are interested, there are also preparation courses for foreign language certificates and qualifications.

Are there opportunities to do work experience?
Yes, there are several opportunities to measure yourself up to the world of work over the five years; from visits to companies, taking part in congresses and meetings with experts in the field.  The most important experience is the “stage” during the summer between the fourth and fifth years.

Why should I choose this course?
To travel and meet other nationalities
To experience different realities and mentalities
To widen my cultural horizons and grow personally
To enter professions connected with tourism and our region

What are the characteristics of foreign language teaching?
The study of foreign languages (English and German for 5 years, French or Spanish for the last three) is fundamental at Gardascuola. It follows the development of the four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) as set out by the Quadro Comune Europeo di Riferimento per lo studio delle lingue straniere. Seeing the value of these subjects as a means of communication, great importance is given to interaction among students and between students and teachers. Moreover the presence of native conversation teachers will further enrich ability. In the first two years the students will concentrate on the morpho-sintax aspects of the language in a communicative way. Information technology and multimedial aids  will be used side by side with the traditional text books and authentic material. From the third year the focus moves to tourism and social-economic issues in preparation for the State Examination. The traditional study of the history of literature is not foreseen but general literary themes which involve the other subjects will be studied. Students will learn to use strategies in a personalised way to improve their languages becoming more and more independent until they are able to connect all the different study areas.  During the five years students will have the opportunity to gain experience abroad.

What indoor and outdoor areas are there?
Gardascuola Institute is located in the town of Arco near the bus station within the grounds of the Padre Monti congregation.  As well as spacious and functional classrooms, there is a compter room, a tourism room, technical rooms, a library and the great hall. Outdoors students will find a spacious park, sports facilities and a gymnasium.

Are there sports activities and championships?
For years as well as the regular P.E. Lessons, Gardascuola has offered, for a minimum cost, alternative courses such as tennis, martial arts, self-defence etc according to popularity.  It is also possible to take part in various student championships .. often with good results.

What does  "Gardascuola Professional" on the homepage mean?
Gardascuola Institute together with the 'Ente Bilaterale del Turismo Trentino e l'Agenzia del Lavoro provinciale' offers (participation is free) specialist courses for professionals of the tourist sector. It is an initiative dedicated to improving knowledge of the region ("Conoscere il territorio") and of online marketing techniques ("Internet marketing").
